Immigration reform has moved to the front of the agenda for the Democratic Party, and progressive Santa Cruz is already in action.
At our 3/21 meeting, the PDC liaison to the Immigration Action Group (which includes reps of other 15 local groups) reported on work against the sheriffs' detention of immigrants for deportation in our county jails, helping young immigrants organize in the DREAMers movement, and helping the labor movement organize a new regional coalition supporting immigration reform with a path to citizenship. ACLU board member Ron Pomerantz and CAB board member Tom Bately are also participating in the new coalition.
